How we met:
Six years ago, I walked into a Raleigh Concert Band rehearsal with my bassoon in hand. I barely knew how to put it together and didn’t know a soul... Turned out, he was the band president, and was an accomplished percussionist.

How we got engaged:
Our lives gradually grew together, cemented by music, good friends, volunteer work, and lots of laughter (he’s a very funny guy). And the more we learned about each other, the more we wanted to know. The more time we spent with each other, the harder it was to be apart. And now, this confirmed bachelorette of 21 years, can’t wait to put her single life behind her, share her four-footed Golden companion, and begin a new life with this singularly warm, loving, and nurturing man.

Our favorite things to do or places to go:
Bird walks (Vernon has been leading them at Lake Crabtree for over 10 years), volunteering in the Discovery Room at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences (he’s been doing that for over 20 years), tagging along to his many band rehearsals and gigs, hiking in the mountains, and, of course, playing in the Raleigh Concert Band.ying in the Raleigh Concert Band.

I'm also in the Raleigh Concert Band, in the percussion section, and have known Vern since he joined the band. I remember seeing the signs that something was starting to brew between those two, a few months before they made it public that they were "dating". As they starting doing more and more things together, I got to know Barbara much more. They both are wonderful people and I'm so happy they found each other. In the time I've known Vern, I can honestly say I have never seen him happier than when Barbara came into his life.
Good luck to the both of them on this wonderful journey.
