A Word from the Artist

the WHO: "I am a mom, student, and aspiring photographer. Photography has always been a part of my life, but I never pursued it beyond a hobby."

the WHY: "My husband's passing in 2009 was the catalyst to pursue my passion for photography. Life is too complicated and short to be burdened by a job that you don't enjoy on some level. Add to that my being out of the workforce for nearly 15 years and the sole caregiver to a 6 and 12 year old photography made sense to me. By choosing to pursue this some unexpected things happened. My children and I stay involved with the community by going places we might not have 'before camera' - all of us with a camera. We have slowed down as the world races by and taken the time to stop and really appreciate what is happening right here, right now. For me personally, photography has given me the opportunity to grow as an individual, learn how to be independent, and re-learn how to make new connections. Although I do not know where this passion will take me, I am enrolled in courses to help develop my technical skills so the meaning or feeling I see when I click the shutter comes through to the viewer."

the WHAT: "For me this particular image represents the vibrant color that springs brings, the subtle harmonies in nature that are often overlooked, and, of course, the yellow pollen that covers absolutely everything in the area."

AND FUNDRAISER

This year Nancy Thomas Photo is hosting the Put Your Art into it Contest Series in conjunction with a Fundraiser for ARTSPACE OUTREACH PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN. All Finalists will be allowed to submit their artwork into the end of the year exhibition at Artspace. This is where additional voting will take place and competition for 2 AWARDS will come to a close.

1. ASPIRING ARTIST OF THE YEAR AWARD (based on ART Submission)
   
2. PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD (based on most VOTES/FUNDS)
   

VOTING: this year each VOTE= $1

Still working out the details (sooo much exciting stuff to come) but for now, for each qualifying Finalist:

• Voting will take place each month for the "Featured First Friday Artist"
  
• Each Finalist will be required to raise 100 votes which equals $100 dollars for each entry they want submitted into the ARTSPACE Exhibit. You will have until the end of the year to raise these 100 votes through individual pledges in order to enter your image. Details will be provided to you.
• All Finalists who raise 100 votes within every 30 day period will receive DOUBLE VOTES for their entry throughout the year.
  
• The monthly "Featured First Friday Artist" winner will receive Media Recognition and 50 Free Votes.
  

We will be posting more info on the ART 4 OUTREACH Fundraiser along with website shortly.

Photographer of the Year Awards

So funny that I host my own photo competition but have never submitted images into competition myself. Well, I finally participated in a contest for Photographer of the Year of 2010! Although I did not steal the spotlight I am extremely proud to announce placing 2nd amongst such amazing talent in the Wedding Photographic Society. I'll chalk it up as a win;)

Can you say FANTABULOUS!! I am blessed to have been a part of this amazing evening made possible by Gordon Welsh of Welsh Paper and Corrugated Company. This evening was a benefit to celebrate Walk for Hope.

Does it get any better than a 6 course meal prepared to perfection by 6 award winning chefs?!! Yes, all dressed up with my favorite Nikon accessory around my neck, but trust me ...I put the camera down to enjoy this feast fit for a King! [ or Queen ;) ]
